Through your tax return
The CIS on your statements counts as tax already paid. File your Self Assessment tax return after 5 April and HMRC sets it against your bill, and anything over can be repaid to you. Filing the return yourself costs nothing.

How it comes back
The CIS on your statements counts as tax already paid. File your Self Assessment tax return after 5 April and HMRC sets it against your bill, and anything over can be repaid to you. Filing the return yourself costs nothing.
A contractor has to give you a statement within 14 days of the end of each tax month. The statements are your evidence of what was taken off, so chase any that are missing before you file.
A company sets the CIS taken off against the PAYE and National Insurance it owes each month through its payroll, and claims back only what is left at the end of the tax year. This checker is for sole traders and partners.
Stoneledger works out your CIS position from your statements as they arrive, chases the ones that are missing, and shows every step of the working - the same engine as this checker, inside your books.
